Hey! They don't exactly have a zoo here, but they have some areas with animals and things from the moon they said we can come check out if you like. Food's on me.
[Early on the second day of Hygge, a small box is delivered. Unlike the other boxes sent out, this one contains only a carefully selected variety of Funtom candies. As well as a note:]
I hope you'll join me at my home to celebrate the holiday. There will be cocoa and a warm fire. ~Ciel Phantomhive
[Ed had seen the broadcast, but more importantly - to him, at least - he saw Laura's reaction to it. A logical response from a wild child in her position. He wasn't sure what to make of the whole thing, but after awhile it became pretty clear the whole situation was a ruse, even if he was used to that exact thing happening all the time in previous worlds.]
Those two messed up pretty bad, huh?
[Regardless of repercussions for their actions from the populace, they'd hurt her and that was enough of a mess up in his opinion if they actually valued her friendship. Since he isn't aware of their replies he has no idea their take on it.]
[Okay, so every day since Laura's announcement of August being her month, Alex has had a small present delivered. Like books, games, chocolates, cookies, etc. Something small, but it's every morning and they all have a card that says "Happy International Laura Month!" on them.]
[ This text is coming a little late, because she hATES to admit that she failed at anything, but eventually she decides she needs to send something in case Laura tries to leave the same way she did. ]
btw i did what we talked about it didn't go well don't try to leave town
[ When Laura comes home she may notice something is awry if the fact that there is a presence in her room is anything to go by. A familiar gunpowder, cancer, and Mexican food smelling presence.
Said presence is sitting in the middle of her room with a large box of building blocks perfecting a tower that stands taller than he sits high. At the very top is a Spider-Man action figure and on the floor is another colored with sharpie to look like Deadpool. ]
[ she hadn't wanted to do this, had figured it would be best for laura to have some space after everything that's happened β but pete had insisted, practically begged. one look at him and wynonna hadn't been able to say no.
besides, if she's really being honest with herself, it'll give her some peace of mind too, to know for sure, even if laura doesn't feel like talking to anyone right now. which is why she errs on the side of leaving her a voice message, rather than a text: something for her to listen to so that tone doesn't get misinterpreted. ]
Laura? It's Wynonna. Do you remember me? You offered to swipe me some crayons, you know, from the diner?
Pete's okay. He wanted you to know that β that he's not upset or anything. He's just worried. [ a small pause, and then: ] We both are. We just want to make sure you're okay.
And if you need anybody to talk to, I mean, I've been told I make a pretty great cup of hot chocolate. Perfect chocolate-to-marshmallow ratio. If you're interested.
[About part of the way through this fucking debacle, Laura gets a surprise text. Klaus doesn't make good decisions on the regular, but reaching out to a literal 11-year-old in a time of crisis and like too much straight vodka may just make the highlight reel the next time he dies and God herself tells him he sucks.
[She's long stopped expecting Wolverine Jr. to keep to any kind of schedule. More errant outdoor cat than roommate, she's gotten used to Laura being out of the house for long stretches at a time. Can't blame her. Not even she thinks of the house as an ideal home she'd stay in if she had any choice.
It's with some surprise that this time she pushes the girl's half-open bedroom door all the way and finds Laura actually in her bed, sound asleep in the middle of the day. This sleeping epidemic's been getting to everyone, it's almost a miracle to make it to any bed when it hits...
It also stymies her hope, though. She'd wanted to bring this up in person--but who knows how long Laura's dream adventuring will last. Undecided, she lingers a moment, then comes forward and pulls back the top blanket so it's no longer tangled around her feet, then brings up a PB&J sandwich to leave by her for when she wakes up.
She sends a text instead so it, too, will be there when she wakes.]
[ Sometime in September, Laura will find a gift sitting in her space. Maybe on her bed or outside the door to her room, wherever he thinks he can get away with it undetected. No note. ]
[ he wouldn't admit that he'd actually thought about it, but β he's thought about it.
the thing is that there's no damn way he was gonna pluck a horse out of thin air in deerington even if he'd occasionally considered how damn happy she'd probably be over having one. of course it isn't the standard first thought for a pet, but enough times looking at the designs on her walls and considering they pretty much live in a farmhouse anyway, he'd thought it wouldn't be a terrible idea albeit an unlikely one.
and then it showed up, quite literally plucked out of thin air he'd imagine, with the way the town works. the horse was addressed in his name, but he knows damn well it isn't actually meant for him, especially since it's a bit of a smaller one and he doesn't imagine it'd want to deal with his weight. no, that horse was meant for a smaller rider, and there was only one option.
so he waits there some yards away from the front porch, with the reins in hand, patting the girl on the snout, waiting β and hoping β for his daughter to slip outside. ]
On Christmas morning, in a box along with Frank and Wynonna's gifts, Laura will find a small stuffed toy with a tag around its neck that says: I need a name!. There's also a slightly dog-eared illustrated copy of Grimms' Fairy Tales with the inscription, on the inside cover: From a Christmas elf, with love - K x
